East won the toss and elected to bowl.
West 174-9 40 overs.
Tugnutt , Worthing CC 48, Bourne, Chiippingdale CC 29, Alun -Jones Stirlands CC
45,
Jones 3-22, Coyle 3-35,
East 157 ao. 32.3 overs.
Southgate 35, Pye 22, Maddison 22, Beck 23.
Piper Worthing CC 4-13, Harris Bognor CC 2-31.
There was plenty of good cricket from both sides, despite the poor conditions.
After a big opening partnership of 95 betweeen Tugnutt and Bourne, the East
spinners pulled the game back, assisted by some great ground fielding. Hugo
Allun Jones on debut, scored 45, holding the West innings together and setting a
good target.
The East got away to a good start, West were poor in the field and struggled to
control the swinging wet ball. A great catch at slip by Bourne, to a Bingham no
ball did not help.!
However Jamie Piper took 3 quick wickets with some very good, hostile fast
bowling, reducing East from 43 -0, to 44-3. Scott Bingham Bognor CC chipped in,
bowling opener Pye, Mugford, Eastergate CC, had Robinson caught behind by the
keeper. Spinners were used for 14 overs scoring continued up with the rate,
however David Harris with 2 wickets, the dangermen Maddison and Southgate, both
bowled, pegged it back.
East continued with their shots, however wickets continued to fall, for Viner,
Stirlands CC, Bourne and Piper again, ensured victory for the West.
A very good game and credit to all players.
Thanks to Umpires Stevens and Smith, also to Middleton CC for hosting the game,
especially Rob Bond Groudsman and Brandon Hanley Co-ordinator for their
assistance and ensuring the match was played.
The West play against the Southern Sabres at West Chiltington on Sunday 19th
June.
