West Area, Warrior Update November 2011

As we approach the end of the autumn programme, the committee and coaches thought it important to update you with our news, developments and looking ahead to 2012.

The final coaching sessions will be completed in the next two weeks, county managers have visited and we await notification of players selected for half county trials. The county will send these letters directly. We will publish the lists on the waca WebPages.

The county trials will finalise at the end of January, when county selections are known, we will publish on the website a list successful players. Players who attend half county and return to Area cricket are automatically selected for Warrior Squads.  At this point the coaches/managers will select their squads. Again, letters will be sent and names published. The squads are a combination of two age groups and will need to be a balanced playing squad, 8 from each age range will be selected.

Details of squad training will be notified.

There will be disappointment, however we are sure that all players’ and parents will feel they have taken part in a high quality coaching programme, which will benefit players individually and strengthen our local clubs.

Development Training will be offered to all players during January and February, full details will follow, keep looking at the website and ask your club coach.

Littlehampton Academy Facilities.

We have had a very difficult time, ensuring that our timetable was honoured, thank you for bearing with us, also with the sub standard facility. The coaches have done a great job in difficult circumstances, I am sure you can see the player’s development and enjoyment, the attendances have been brilliant.

You will remember that we had taken forward a combined project to update the cricket facilities, I am pleased to be able to tell you this will commence in the School holidays, when new lighting, nets and mats will come together to form a high quality indoor training venue. This is a project between the School, West Area, Sussex Cricket Board and the ECB. This is a massive boost for our area and will secure a top quality venue for many years.

Looking at ways to provide further equipment is our next task, a Bowling machine is a priority, and the combined cost will be close to £3000 pounds.  Perhaps someone would like to sponsor or donate? Any assistance would be very welcome. If you would like to help, please contact me directly either by email, brian.towner@btinternet.com or tel 07763815743.

Finally, we wish you all a Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you in the New Year.

Best Wishes,

West Area Committee and Coaches.
