Western Warriors
u12/u13 Team News, Results and Cards

The composition of the teams is a minimum of 5 of a single age group. Obviously we have to try and keep a balanced and competitive team. There is a wide range of bowling options, with both keepers getting experience. I have tried to ensure all play 2 of the first 3 matches, where possible.

The team is made up of 12 players, one non batter, who will bowl, fielders will be rotated.

All matches are scheduled to start at 1pm, please meet at 1215hrs. 40 over matches. No tea provided.

Please find selections for the second half of the season.

As you will notice, I have called up a player, Will GL, who will replace Toby. Will played for Westbourne House School and did take part in the assessments.
I am looking forward to the next 3 games to continue our progress, which was so good at West Chiltington last Sunday. I am really pleased with the bowling and fielding, batting we need to make sure we play positively but not ‘give’ our wickets away. James Allen was tremendous last week, as were all the bowlers and fielders, lets see more of the same, as you say “ come on warriors”.
Best Wishes,
Brian

------------------

The second practice match proved to be a real test, with the school wining very comfortably. Lots of lessons learnt...hopefully.

Put into bat on the artificial ptch, lt was always going to be a test, some really good line and length bowling frustrated our batters, seemingly unable to score unless the ball was short and wide. Only Aaron Tugnutt, of the early batters showed good technique and judgement and went on to show how to play, scoring freely, before his retirement.

Some loose shots contributed to most of the dismissals early on, playng across the line on middle/leg.

the latter batsman showed some real urgency to try and set a score, with Alex Carman, against his own school, Matt Langmead and Louis Paul, taking the score to 115..never enough.

Westbourne with some real class at the top of the order, (county standard), effectively won the game in the first 6 overs, hitting the ball hard all round the wicket. We struggled with the conditions and gave too many boundary balls, the fielding suffered and heads went down.

We came back well with Joe Ashmore capturing 3 good wickets, some of the bowlers inproved in the second spells. In fact the spinners appeared the most effective, with David and Alex bowling well.

As discussed yesterday, we did not perform at the required standard for area cricket, clearly playing a team of U13 players is difficult and some of the u12's will now realise what is expected. All of you would have played matches of this length 30 overs, the concentration needs to improve, our matches are 40 overs long!

This was a a steep learning curve for many, I am sure it is a blip and we will all learn from the experience, practice hard over the next 2 weeks.

We are expecting the clothing before the first area festival match , 6th June. The first 3 squads, of 12, will be notified this week, for matches, 6/6, 20/6 and 4/7.
